Interview

Was a second Yummie album ever planned? If so, what songs were written and intended for it?

X: Yes and no.
I still have a couple of ideas and unreleased Yummie-songs in my studio... Maybe I will have to look deeper into the "Yummie-files" one of these days... I´m pretty shure Zed have a couple of ideas in his big bubble- head. The hole yummie-concept was based on us two working together, comeing up with silly ideas, lauging and having fun and we´re still god friends so... you never know.

A single for the song "Get Out Of My Face!" was released in 2001 (according to Wikipedia anyway). Would you be able to tell me a little bit about this release? I have never heard the song before, is it in a similar style to the other songs on "Sweet & Sour"?

ZED: The song Get out of my face did got released on the Estonian version of the album "Sweet & Sour". It's a bit different from the other material. More ruff.

X: I don’t recall if it was released somewhere else in the world. It’s a much rougher song, but still very catchy. Zed and I were screaming our lungs out singing the chorus (GET OUT OF MY FACE) in a rock n´ roll almost "heavy metal" way. We recorded the vocal-part at my studio: Oxroad Studio - and made a couple of overdubs to make it sound like we were a big crowd shouting the chorus. But it’s still only my voice and Zed’s voice...The rest of the song were recorded at Stockhouse Studio - Stocksund, Stockholm. (ABBA once recorded a couple of songs at Stockhouse in the seventies...)
"Get out of my face" was the last song EVER recorded at Stockhouse. A couple of weeks later they shut down the studio.

Did you ever release or complete any material under "Shine"? Is it in the same bubblegum style as Yummie's music?

ZED: Shine was an projekt we did with a friend of our. And the style is closer to Aqua then Yummie ever was. With piched voice. But Bubblegum? Yes!
Shine have put her career behind now and are not interested in it anymore.

X: I belive two of the "Shine - songs" were released on a compelation-cd in Japan / Asia. Both songs are very catchy and even more bubblegum style than Yummie ever was.
At one point, there were a small chance that Aqua would record one of the songs we wrote for the "Shine -project." Nothing ever happened with that...
I guess if Aqua is looking for good songs they know who to call (laughing out loud ...)

Did you have any other bubblegum projects, apart from Yummie and Shine?

ZED: Yeah a few but nothing worth talking about =)

X: Music projects yes - Bubblegum projects no.

People have described Yummie's sound as a blend of "Aqua" and "Ace of Base." Would you agree with this description, and what do you consider your main musical 'influences'?

ZED: Our main influences are carribian, Latin and socca music. But in a more Eurodisco way. (Make my day, Ay ay ay, it's so yummie yummie and Poppa Joe for example.)

X: Combined with traditional pop. It is always about the melody and the "hooks" when you´re creating pop / hit music ... We had a lot of fun writing the songs and comming up with the typical "silly lyrics". Yummie was all about FUN.

A music video for the single "Bubblegum" was released. Could you please tell us a bit of information about this video? It is an extremely rare release and I can't find any information on it.

ZED: You can watch it at YouTube and make your own oppinion about it =) The video was recorded in Haninge outside of Stockholm by Johannes Runeborg. All people in the video are personal friends to us. The song Bubblegum is about an suburb girl (White Trash) As they say in US. Her only wich is to get to the stars and the way to get there is to get her face and body in a Playboy magazine likely papers (That is what she thinks is the perfect shortcut to that). As you here in the lyrics (I wanna be in "Slitz", I know I have the tits) "Slitz" is that kind of magazine in Sweden. And we make a bit fun out of that your the hot girl in the suburb but maby NOT that hot elsewere =)

X: In the video you can see me doing an acrobat / stunt scene... don’t look too close...

What are your favorite Yummie songs?

ZED: Mine is Make My Day, I like the socca rythm. We did a cover on "Who Let The Dogs Out" 2 years before it accually got to be a world wide hit. But our record company didn't think it would work. Now afterwords we can say they were pretty wrong =)

X: My favorite Yummie songs are "Ay Ay Ay" and "Jolly Roger" (a song about pirates that we never released...) "Seven seas" is still a good power ballad.
Most of the songs would still work. A little more work in the production part of the songs wouldn´t hurt, but the imported thing are the songs. The melodies and the hooks...

Were there ever any plans for a second album release by Yummie?

ZED: I can't say there ever was, but you never know =)

X: We had a couple of ideas and songs for another Yummie album. We even had a working title for the album: Bar B Q.
But... downloading music from the internet instead of buying records became very popular all over the world and there was simply no point in spending all your time, energy and money on producing albums and records... Maybe the times will change someday.

Do you have a favorite bubblegum? ;-)

ZED: The ones that don't get stuck under my feet =)

X: Hubba Bubba ... the one and only !!!
