The Furby Fans
The Furby Fans is the name of a bubblegum dance project from the Netherlands created by Tom and Frank Verkooyen. The project is best known for their 1999 single "I Love My Furby" which was released in both Dutch and English.
The Furby Fans, as the name suggests, is a project dedicated to the electronic toy "Furby" which was manufactured by Tiger Electronics Ltd in the late 90's. The toy was extremely popular all around the world, and many other bubblegum dance projects were inspired to write songs about it, including Blue 4 U and Greta. However, "The Furby Fans" is the only bubblegum dance group to be completely dedicated to the toy, and the first to release a full-length album inspired by it.
It could be suggested that "The Furby Fans" was meant as a promotional took for Furby, as the Tiger Electronics Web site and Furby Web sites are mentioned on the official album release, however this has not been confirmed.
Album release
The album "We Love Furby" was released in 1999, shortly following the release of the debut single "I Love My Furby." The album was produced by Tom and Frank Verkooyen, and recorded at TF Products in Holland. Mixing was done at the Soundsational Studios in Belgium, and the album was marketed by Bunny Music in association with Corbeau Entertainment and distributed by Dino Music.
The album is made up of 13 tracks; 6 English and 6 Dutch versions, and another bonus English song ("...2 Sleep"). The production is pure bubblegum eurodance, and features a high-pitched female vocalist singing catchy hooks. The producers have encorporated many Furby recordings throughout the songs, and fans of furby will instantly recognise these sounds.
