Adam Edelmann Interview

Adam from Sweden is a producer and song writer best known for his work with Blue Monster.

First off, and I must ask, was an album/single(s) by Blue Monster ever released? And if so, where was it released, and do you have any official album art and a tracklisting you could share? There was a teaser on the official Web site for many years saying something "will be released" in Asia in 2002, but I can't find any official information on a tracklisting, or album art etc.

One single, 'Pata Pata', was released in Scandinavia. There was a planned release of the album on Avex Asia but it never got released unfortunately. I'm not really sure why, but the timing wasn't perfect. The big bubblegum era was almost over..

I took some pictures of the single and of the album dummy showing the art and tracklisting. Not the best quality though, Mikael might have some better material or some copies of the CD's he could send you.

Also in Asia, songs from the album including 'Pata Pata' and 'Monster Oh Monster' were placed on several compilation CD's. 'Monster Oh Monster' actually had some pretty good chart success.

Do you have a favourite song(s) by Blue Monster? My favourite songs by Blue Monster are "Take A Ride" and "Snow Monster". :)

I think my favourite would be Snowmonster. :)

"Boom Boom Bang Bang" was also covered by Nivek Tek's original Yumm Yumm in the early 2000s. Were you closely associated with the Yumm Yumm project?

I met Nivek, think it was in 2001, and he introduced me to the Yumm Yumm project and some really catchy songs he had written. I got the opportunity to do some production on Ready Freddy and Boom Boom Bang Bang. The latter is a Yumm Yumm song and there wasn't actually an official Blue Monster version.:)

The music video for "Pata Pata" was recently uploaded to YouTube. What are your views on this video? Do you like it? How well was this video received when it was released?

Hm, well I'm a fan of the director of the video and I was expecting some twisted humour, but I guess it went a little too far;) that's what I realise today anyway. It wasn't appropriate for the smaller kids. I think we had some problems deciding the targeted age-group for the album. I'm not sure about the reception of the video, I think reactions were both positive and negative...

What were some of the inspiration behind songs such as "Snow Monster" and "Walk Like An Elephant"?

The creators of Blue Monster had a really cool concept and wanted each song to have a different theme and story that could work well visually in a music video so we had that in mind when we wrote the tracks. We tried to come up with different funny little stories and it was all about capturing Blue Monsters crazyness basically. Snow Monster would be set somewhere in the Alps and what you hear in the intro of the song is Blue Monster tripping and falling down a mountain like a big blue snowball. "Walk like an elephant" was written/produced by another production team so I couldn't say:)

What were some of your musical influences while producing Blue Monster? Were you inspired by Aqua?

There were many Bubblegum acts around at that time that I got inspired by and yes, Aqua was one of them.

Who wrote the lyrics for the majority of the Blue Monster songs? They are quite hilarious. I particularly like "Walk Like An Elephant" and "Monster Oh Monster".

Hehe thank you. We think 'Walk like an elephant' (not our song though) and 'Monster Oh Monster' are funny songs too;) I guess Anna Clara and I wrote the majority but there were many other songwriters too..

What country was the Blue Monster project based in?

Sweden.

Assuming the Blue Monster project is no longer active, what was the reason for abandoning the project?

I guess it had to do with it not taking off the way we had hoped. But never count out Blue Monster;)

Lastly, what is your favourite candy? =)

My favourite candy is Swedish "Bilar" and "M" similar to"M&M'S"

Thank you so much for this Adam! It means so much to the fans of Blue Monster, past, present, and future!

Thank you Mitch, my pleasure!
