Robert Uhlmann Interview
Robert Uhlmann is a producer and song writer from Sweden best known for his work with Smile.dk and Dr. Bombay.
You've produced a number of 'bubblegum dance' acts, most specifically Smile.dk and Dr. Bombay. What other bubblegum projects have you worked with, and what is your favourite?
In the bubblegum genre I also worked with Daze, Cartoons, Tiggy, Aqua. I also did Aneela's (Toy Box) solo album even if that wasn't bubblegum at all. It had more of an ethnic appeal you could say:). However my favourite is Dr. Bombay, even if I really love the other one's too...!
Are you planning to work with Smile.dk again in the future? Could you reveal to us any future album releases/plans?
Sorry to say, but I will probably never do anything more with them. But... you should never say never=). I know that they are trying to do something new but it's hard since both of them are mother's today. Malin lives in Stockholm and Veronica on the country side in the south of Sweden. Meaning that they are quite far from each other and hardly never meet anymore.
What are some of your current hobbies and interests?
All sorts or music, traveling, visiting my places in Dubai and Hong Kong, NL Holdem, technical stuff, hanging out with friends.
The majority of bubblegum dance styled music comes from Scandinavian countries. Do you know why it has such a huge focus in this area, and why is it mostly popular in Japan?
I think it's because we have a high standard when it comes to writing and production. We also have good studios in general with very competent people working there. Why it's so popular in Japan? Probably because it fits their mentality: happy songs for happy people..!
What are your thoughts on Aqua's recent reunification?
It would be nice if it would work out well. However it's always hard to make a come back after such a long time. I hope it will since they are such a nice bunch of people!
A lot of Smile.dk songs have a Japanese theme, is that part of Smile.dk's image?
When we developed the project from the beginning our thoughts was to make an album with themes from different countries. As it developed with Butterfly and the Japanese market we slowly went over doing that style since it worked so well.
Do you have a favourite candy? :)
I really love marshmallows..=)
Thank you very much for your time.
