Mads B.B. Krog Interview
Mads from Denmark is a producer and songwriter, best known as a member of Crispy.
What are your favorite Crispy song(s)?
“Licky Licky”, ”In & Out” and ”The Game."
While writing under the Crispy project, what do you consider some of your musical influences?
I have always been listening to a very large variety of music in all kinds of genres. But before we stated writing the Crispy material, I remember that I was listening to dance groups like Sash, E-Type, Whigfield and Robert Miles.
Are you a fan of any other bubblegum dance groups?
No I am not a fan of a specific act, and I don’t have one favorite bubblegum group. I am more a fan of individual songs – and especially the ones with catchy melodic instrumental themes. “Ecuador” by Sash, “Roses are Red” by Aqua, “Do Do” by Barcode Brothers, “Children” by Robert Miles, “9pm till I come” by ATB, “Dear Jessie” by Rollergirl, “better of alone” by Alice DJ etc…
Do you know any other bubblegum artists personally?
I know a lot of the people behind the music, because I still work as a professional composer and producer.
What was the influence behind the album's title "The Game"? Did any certain video games influence you in writing the title song?
Yes, the song was inspired from the computer game Tomb Raider.
Who thought of the song topics? They incredibly genius.
I don’t think that I would call them genius - but I can tell you that - Chrizz and I spend a lot of time laughing and suggesting funny ideas to each other. We had so much fun writing the lyrics.
Were you ever mistaken for another bubblegum dance act? If so, did it offend you?
There was a period in Denmark where there were a lot of bubblegum groups and when Aqua became very big a lot of the other groups –like us- where sometimes compared with them. But I had no problem with that…
How many music videos did Crispy have and for which songs?
Unfortunately we only got the chance make videos for “Licky Licky” and “In & Out.”
Before Mette's unfortunate passing, was there plan for another album? Was there a working title?
Yes for a long time we worked on a second album.
The singles “In & Out”, “I Like”, “L/R” (XPY) and “La Fiesta” (XPY) were from a forthcoming album, but unfortunately it was never finished and released. There were no working title.
Are there any plans to proceed with the XPY project and are you part of any other dance bands at the moment?
There are no plans on starting XPY or Crispy again.
I am now a successful songwriter and producer and I write hits and produce records for Danish and international artists. (also a few dance acts;-))
My latest work include the forthcoming debut album from the artist Ayoe Angelica (www. myspace. com/ayoeangelica)
And I release my solo material under the pseudonym Plateaux Techniques (www. myspace. com/plateauxtechniques)
Was there a reason why you chose to do a bubblegum styled eurodance project?
I did it because I liked (and still like) some of the good eurodance music very much.
The simple chords, the catchy melody, the bouncy beat, the happy lyrics and the colorful visual universe were our way to celebrate life, freedom, peace, love, party and youth.
Do you have a favorite candy? ;)
Jelly Bears
